Enterprise Solutions Includes Great Sales Tax Features.

Among many other great features, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions has a robust and flexible sales tax model. If you file sales tax, you'll need to provide additional info after upgrading - in order to transition your earlier version’s sales tax data to the Enterprise Solutions 12.0 sales tax model.

Easy Transitions in the Upgrade Centre
The Upgrade Centre displays the tasks you need to perform after upgrading to use QuickBooks to its fullest. Some tasks are more critical than others to complete, such as Adjust for Sales Tax Overpayment or Underpayment.

You can complete these tasks at your convenience! Just click "Add Reminder" and, when you're ready, you can return to the Upgrade Centre simply by selecting it from the Company menu. Tasks requiring your attention are highlighted - so just click the link to launch the applicable tool.

Areas that may need your attention are:

  • Adjust for sales tax overpayment or underpayment
  • Recreate custom form templates with the Template Wizard
  • Identify your previously memorized reports
  • Review changes to Memorized Transactions and Units of Measure
  • Download currency exchange rates

How to Adjust for Sales Tax Overpayment or Underpayment.

You might have to adjust for sales tax overpayment or underpayment if there were transactions in your prior version’s data file that:

  • Contained sales tax but no sales tax codes
  • Were modified after sales tax was filed

The new sales tax model ensures that sales tax reports always agree with the sales tax liability account balance, no matter how or when you recorded transactions. In prior versions of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, if you didn't use the File Sales Tax feature, or if a transaction didn’t have a sales tax code or was modified after you filed sales tax, then you could have unreported sales tax amounts. In the new sales tax model, transactions that are mis-entered and have unreported amounts are included in the total sales tax liability account balance.

During the upgrade process, QuickBooks detects the total unreported amount from old transactions. You can then adjust the sales tax overpayment or underpayment that QuickBooks identifies for you.

When you click Adjust for Sales Tax Overpayment or Underpayment, QuickBooks launches the Resolve Your Sales Tax feature. This feature walks you through available options to reconcile the total unreported sales tax amount.

Before the Resolve Your Sales Tax feature launches, you'll need to provide details about your last sales tax payment. Specifically, you'll need to provide the date and amount of your last sales tax payment (or refund). So please keep this information handy during upgrade.

Recreate Custom Form Templates with the Template Wizard.

(Important If You're Using Multicurrency Edition, QuickBooks 2007 or Earlier.)

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 12.0 allows for improved business form customization. Because of this, formatting business forms from QuickBooks Multicurrency Edition and QuickBooks 2007 and earlier can’t be upgraded.

If you customized your business forms, click Recreate Custom Form Templates with the Template Wizard to create new custom templates or download new ones.

Identify Previously Memorized Reports.

(Important If You're Using Multicurrency Edition, QuickBooks 2007 or Earlier.)

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 12.0 allows faster access to information in reports. Because of this, customization and formatting of memorized reports from QuickBooks Multicurrency Edition, QuickBooks 2007 and earlier version cannot be upgraded.

The Memorized Report Tool helps you identify reports that were memorized in your prior version so you can easily recreate them. Click Identify Your Previously Memorized Reports to see a list of reports memorized in your prior version that you might want to memorize again.

Review Changes to Memorized Transactions and Units of Measure.

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions helps you with Units of Measure, Price Levels, and Foreign Sales Price Levels. These improvements impact tax amounts on Memorized Transactions.

After upgrading, click Review Changes to Memorized Transactions and Units of Measure to see the QuickBooks Upgrade Report. The report shows transactions affected by the change, the previous amount of the transaction and the current amount in your 2010 company file.

Download Currency Exchange Rates
You need to download your currency exchange rates before you begin using the multicurrency features in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. Just click Download Currency Exchange Rates, and QuickBooks downloads the currency exchange rates for you.
